Cataloguing is the activity that describes the manual effort and tasks necessary for the creation and maintenance of records in the database (data capture).

There are several associated tasks that includes the recording of details about physical and digital items. When physical items are recorded there will be one or more copies of the physical item and these can be individually recorded with or without bar codes to track the items. The task of cataloguing also encompasses the management of thesauri, managing reviews and ratings, the creation of labels.

Records can be created in the database by automated methods using the Import function. Imports can be performed manually or at predefined scheduled periods.
