This option allows you to define masks for fields, so that data being entered has to conform to a specific pattern of characters.

Note that these should only be attempted by developers experienced in the use of regular expressions.

 

This page describes:

 

To access Maintain Validation Templates, select System Management > Database Configuration > Maintain Validation Templates.

The Validation Templates page appears:

 

No mask definitions have been defined in this screen shot.

Adding a new mask definition

To add a mask definition:

  1. Click Add a new template link in the Actions menu
  2. A new form opens up:

     

  3. Enter information into the following fields (only the Template Name field is required):

    Template Name:Enter a name for the mask
    Regular expression:Enter the regular expression to define it
    Description:Enter a description of what the mask does
    Active:The new mask is Active by default - untick the box to deactivate it
  4. When you have finished, click Save at the bottom of the form to save the mask definition.

The new definition then appears in the list of definitions.

Editing a mask definition

To edit a mask definition:

  1. Click Edit next to the mask
  2. The same form opens up as for adding a new mask
  3. Make the required changes
  4. Click Save to save the mask definition

Deleting a mask definition

 

Note that you cannot delete a mask definition if it has already been attached to a field.

 

To delete a mask definition:

  1. Click on the definition to highlight it
  2. Click Delete selected template in the Actions menu
  3. The following message appears: 

     

  4. Click OK to continue.

The mask definition then disappears from the list.

Deactivating a mask

Deactivating a mask prevents its use within the application, although the definition remains in existence, so that it can be re-activated at any time.

To deactivate a mask:

  1. Click on the item to highlight it
  2. Click Mark selected inactive in the Actions menu
  3. The following message appears: 

     

  4. Click OK to continue.

The mask definition then appears in the list unticked.

Activating a mask

To activate a mask:

  1. Click on the item to highlight it:
  2. Click Mark selected active in the Actions menuThe following message appears:

     

  3. Click OK to continue.

The mask definition then appears in the list ticked.
